Domestic Students

Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme

Administered by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia

The Rural Pharmacy Scholarships have been established to provide financial support to encourage and enable students from rural and remote communities to undertake undergraduate or graduate studies in pharmacy at University.

There are up to 30 scholarships offered annually, with a value of $10,000 per annum per student (ie. $40,000 per student over a four year period).

Scholarship recipients are encouraged to seek employment in rural and remote areas following graduation.

UQ Undergraduate Scholarships - Domestic Students

Administered by the University of Queensland

UQ’s undergraduate scholarship program is the largest in Queensland and one of the most generous in Australia.

Finding the right scholarship does require some research as the eligibility criteria varies by scholarship type.

International Students

School of Pharmacy Foundation Year Bursary

The School of Pharmacy offers one bursary per year exclusively to UQ Foundation Year Students.  The bursary will be awarded to an outstanding UQ Foundation Year graduate seeking admission into the Pharmacy degree at The University of Queensland.

The bursary is awarded on academic merit. The winner will be announced at the Foundation Year graduation ceremony in December of each year, for entry into the degree the following year.

The value of The Pharmacy Bursary is a one off payment of AUD$3,000.

International Pharmacy Scholarship (1st year entry)

The UQ Pharmacy School offers a $3000 scholarship to be paid during the 1st semester of study to a student enrolled in the 1st year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy.  

Allocation is based on academic achievement. All eligible applicants are considered automatically (no application form required).

International Pharmacy Scholarship (2nd year entry)

There are several of these scholarships awarded each year, one each to the highest achieving student from Republic Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and one for a student entering into year two of the program not from one of the aforementioned polytechnics.

The UQ Pharmacy School offers a $3000 scholarships to be paid during the 1st semester of study to a student who through previous study enrols directly into the 2nd year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy.  

Allocation is based on academic achievement. All eligible applicants are considered automatically (no application form required).

Research Higher Degree Scholarships

Research Higher Degree candidates may apply for a variety of scholarships:

  • Alan Grant-Taylor Memorial Scholarship
  • Australian Postgraduate Awards (APAs)
  • Dora Lush NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships
  • Cancer Fund
  • National Heart Foundation
  • IPRS applicants (with an outstanding undergraduate performance and research publications)

The School proactively seeks to support students via its Research Committee's Scholarship Program.

It is recommended that students seek the advice of their supervisor and/or the Research and Scholarships Officer to assist with applications as:

  • Application dates vary
  • Top-up scholarships may be available
  • Scholarships for students with Honours Class IIA may be available
  • Funds to support travel to international conferences may be available

External Scholarships

UQ Pharmacy Community Scholarship Program

This Scholarship Program will ensure selected students from disadvantaged backgrounds and isolated communities will be able to access educational opportunities in pharmacy.

$1.5 million is needed to establish an endowment fund that will generate sufficient income to support, in perpetuity, eight Bachelor of Pharmacy Scholarships to be awarded annually (value $8363.00 per scholarship).

  • All donations over $1,000.00 will receive a framed certificate of appreciation
  • All supporters over $1,500.00 will be acknowledged by their level of contribution on a specially designed Honour Board that will be permanently installed in the Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence (PACE) building
  • The founding gift of $180,000.00 will be invited to name a scholarship after a family or individual or company in perpetuity
  • All gifts of any size and duration are welcome

UQ Summer Research Scholarship Program

The UQ Summer Research Program provides you with an opportunity to gain research experience working alongside some of the university’s leading academics and researchers. 

Projects are available for between 6-10 weeks over the summer break (from mid-November to mid-February) and require a minimum of 20 hours per week commitment.

Please note: Students do not need to be studying a Bachelor of Pharmacy to be eligible to complete a Summer Research Program at the School of Pharmacy. Some restrictions may apply.

Key Features
  • Funding equivalent to $360 per week. The period of eligibility for scholarship payments between 6-10 weeks, commencing in mid-November and concluding in mid-February
  • Supervision by well-established researchers at the School of Pharmacy
  • Access to state-of-the-art research facilities and materials of the Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence
  • Capacity to obtain credit (or milestone requirements) towards your undergraduate degree (subject to degree rules and structure)

UQ Winter Research Scholarship Program

The UQ Winter Research Program provides you with an opportunity to gain research experience working alongside some of the university’s leading academics and researchers.

Research projects are available between 4-6 weeks over the winter vacation period (from mid-June to mid-July) and commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Please note: Students do not need to be studying a Bachelor of Pharmacy to be eligible to complete a Summer Research Program at the School of Pharmacy. Some restrictions may apply.
