Speaker bio

Prof Sanjay Garg is a pharmaceutical scientist with a passion for research and teaching in translational drug development and delivery and a mission to make lives better for our patients. He is the Director of Pharmaceutical Innovation and Development Group (PIDG) and the Centre for Cancer Diagnostics and Therapeutics (CCDT) at the University of South Australia. 

His interdisciplinary research is based on the principles of engagement, innovation, translation and impact. Prof Garg's team is focusing on novel anticancer drug delivery systems, antibacterial compounds and formulations for superbugs, wound healing, and veterinary formulations using advanced pharmaceutical techniques.

Several formulations from his laboratory have reached clinical trials and market, including Phexii which was approved by US FDA for marketing as a contraceptive in 2020.

With the research team, he has published 228 research papers, several patents, book chapters, books, and completed technology transfers for twelve products, leading to h index of 56 (Google Scholar). He has supervised over 200 research scholars at all levels, including 8 current PhD students. He was honoured with the APSA medal in 2015.
