Resolution of Stress in Chronic Disease
Speaker: Associate Professor Sumaira Hasnain, Mater Research Institute
Abstract
This presentation focuses on the role of interleukin-22 (IL-22) in mitigating endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, a key driver of various chronic diseases. We'll explore how IL-22 modulates the unfolded protein response and its impact on inflammation and cellular dysfunction, particularly within pancreatic beta-cells. The findings presented highlight the therapeutic potential of targeting the IL-22 pathway to alleviate ER stress and improve outcomes in conditions like diabetes.
New approaches for type 1 diabetes treatment and prevention
Speaker: Associate Professor Emma Hamilton-Williams, Frazer Institute
Abstract
Associate Professor Hamilton-Williams research focuses on understanding how immune tolerance is disrupted leading to the development of type 1 diabetes. This presentation will give an overview of two aspects of her work: (1) Development of liposome-nanoparticle based antigen-specific immunotherapy for type 1 diabetes; (2) Microbial-metabolite based interventions for type 1 diabetes.
