Student representatives are the face of the student body, and advocate for student interests on and off campus.
Enrolled students can contact student representatives to discuss issues, concerns and ideas related to their studies and student experience.

Expressions of interest in Student Representative roles are typically advertised in February/March each year, with the aim of finalising committee appointments by 31 March. Please keep an eye out early in the year to apply for a Student Representative role.

 | Nathan McHughBachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) - Email Nathan Hi! I am Nathan. My goal as a student representative for the School of Pharmacy is to help redefine how we see study, course structure and uni/work/life balance. Opinions of mine are very often unconventional in nature and the way I learn and involve myself with UQ is no different. I am not afraid of being wrong and love to wrap my head around how to improve how everything operates, optimizing not just for the best result but also the highest compliance and smoothest experience. My view is that there is no point in having your own 'perfect little strategy' that solves everything for everyone if not everyone can or is willing to implement it. Therefore, the hard truth about this is that it means the best designs have to be simple and elegant in nature, but distilling such complex and robust ideas down to a simple actionable design is extremely difficult and that is where my passion lies; refining a grand vision down to an easy to implement and follow plan for everyone. Do not be afraid to reach out to me personally if you have anything you would like me to discuss with other representatives and/or staff, I am very active via email and always love to hear people’s opinions. Most importantly, if you are a student in the School of Pharmacy and have any unconventional or unique ideas to improve the student experience and you have been afraid to bring them up to staff or faculty; as long as it is respectful, I will be happy to learn about them. I will never shut down any idea because it is too unconventional or eccentric, regardless of my own views. I thrive off this. I love learning and growing my perspective in every area possible. Not only do your ideas help me learn more about the world and UQ as a whole, but they also give your ideas a chance to have a voice they never got. |

Become a student representative
The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has a number of committees that are part of the governance of the school:

Reasons to become a committee student representative:
- Committee membership is an opportunity to represent your classmates and contribute to ongoing enhancements of the program
- The experience of being part of the School governance will enhance your employability skills.
What does the role involve?
- The role broadly requires you to present your perspective and ideas, and to also sometimes gather the views of your classmates, to inform decision making by the School
- Induction and training will be provided to all student representatives.
- The committees meet monthly between February and November. We appreciate you may not be able to attend all meetings but would welcome your attendance as much as possible. Meetings typically last 1- 2 hours
- If you cannot attend meetings in person, it will be possible to attend via Zoom
- Ideally, we would like our representatives to serve for 18 months, but understand this may be impacted by how close you are to completing your program.
